Wikipedia copy paste:
“Carthage was the capital city of the ancient Carthaginian civilization, on the eastern side of the Lake of Tunis in what is now Tunisia. Carthage was one of the most important trading hubs of the Ancient Mediterranean and one of the most affluent cities of the classical world. The ancient city was destroyed by the Roman Republic in the Third Punic War in 146 BC and then re-developed as Roman Carthage, which became a major city of the Roman Empire in the province of Africa.

Carthage remained an important Roman city for almost 5 centuries, until the early 400s when the Roman Empire began to fall, Vandal invaders attacked and captured Carthage in 429 AD.

As the Eastern Roman empire continued, Carthage was retaken by Byzantium in the Vandal Wars of 533 AD.

The Byzantine Romans of Africa were not able to withstand the seventh-century Muslim conquest of the Maghreb. In 686, the Umayyad Caliphate sent an army who won a battle over the Romans and Berbers close by, however they did not succeed in capturing Carthage for another 10 years. in 698 the Muslims returned and defeated Emperor Tiberios III at the 698 Battle of Carthage. Roman imperial forces withdrew from all of Africa except Ceuta. Fearing that the Byzantine Empire might reconquer it, the Umayyads decided to destroy Carthage in a scorched earth policy and establish their headquarters somewhere else. Its walls were torn down, the water supply from its aqueducts cut off, the agricultural land was ravaged and its harbors made unusable.

The Grand Harbour in Carthage had consisted of a rectangular commercial harbour connected to an internal guarded military harbour. The protected section of the harbour was circular and was surrounded by an outer ring of structures in which ships requiring maintenance docked. In the middle of the water, there was an island to which ships also landed. The harbour was equipped with slipways, after which ships were released into the water.”

Of course Ive made the harbor in this map big enough to take ships.
